Dedication Day

"A few weeks before their dedication, they are tattooed with His sigil, over the heart. The chosen spend their last week continuing their practice, ensuring that they are in the best physical shape that they can be, and resting as much as possible. They mix a ceremonial oil containing holy herbs, each girls' recipe being her own.

The ritual is undertaken at sundown. The girl, dressed in ceremonial robes, kneels on a huge stone slab inscribed with His emblem and calls out to Him in prayer. At the crescendo of her cry, she slashes herself across the left wrist and vanishes in a flash of supernatural lightening as the blood falls onto the carved stone.

She reappears on another slab in a vast temple in the pits of the underworld. He is lounging on an enormous throne, watching the new arrival with vague amusement. "Come," He purrs, voice surprisingly smooth for such an imposing beast..."

Arts from a very porny fix I wrote for Katch about a cult dedicated to his demon. This is kind of old now, and the proportions are off, but I still like the effect.
